Donna L. Yanus, R.D.H., received her dental hygiene degree at Luzerne County Community College and continued her education at Penn Dental School in Philadelphia. There she received certification for local anesthetic and nitrous oxide sedation.

Donna began her career in Philadelphia working with a Quest management office under the direction of Linda Miles. There she received training in state of the art office management techniques. This experience enabled Donna to acquire a position as Dental Hygiene director at a large group practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

In 1993 after hurricane Andrew hit southern Florida, Donna relocated to the Key Largo area to reopen a practice that had been relocated after this devastating storm. Her responsibilities included practice management, collections, scheduling, and interviewing staff. During this time she acquired her Florida State License to practice Dental Hygiene. Upon completion of the reopening she continued to practice dental hygiene for the practice for 2years.

An opportunity to work with a dental laser in Kingston, Pennsylvania was offered and accepted, this was a great opportunity to work with new dental technology in non-surgical periodontal therapy in a cosmetic oriented practice. After a few cold winters and an idea to use her photography skills for a dental hygiene reference calendar, Donna again returned to sunny Florida.

While continuing to practice Dental Hygiene she produced “The Gum Guru” calendar. This was an original marketing idea using nature photography and profound statements as a tool to educate and motivate hygiene practices at home. It was presented and sold at dental and dental hygiene meetings in Florida and Pennsylvania.

Having an interest in computers she completed training to become a Dentrix Representative and certified in office trainer, combining her practice management skills with state of the art technology.

Joining the Oral Cancer foundation has motivated Donna to begin lecturing on the importance of implementing “the complete head and neck oral cancer screening for dental offices”. A standard implemented by the Oral Cancer Consortium held in New York. Currently identifying the dental community as the first line in defense to increase public awareness of this debilitating disease.

Donna was certified in Ashganga Yoga in 2009 and dedicates her weekly classes to the healthy posturing of dental professionals locally in St Pete Beach, FL. Check put her instructional video and e-booklet on Dental Yoga, in our courses section of Dental Enhancements.
